Since the release of their first album – “Makiko” in 2006, Makiko Hirabayashi Trio has received wide critical acclaim as a personal voice on the international jazz scene.
The trio is known for their vibrant interplay and originality in their compositions.
Born in Tokyo, educated in Boston and now living in Copenhagen, Makiko is a cosmopolitan spirit. Collaboration with the world famous percussionist and drummer Marilyn Mazur (who has toured and performed with Miles Davis Group, including Jan Garbarek and Wayne Shorter amongst many others) and bassist Klavs Hovman has led to appearances at many major jazz festivals and venues in Europe and Japan and the releasing of 3 albums with their second album – “Hide And Seek” being a double prize winner for both composition and sound, in Jazz Critique Magazine, Japan.
Makiko’s music reflects her multicultural background, where elements of jazz, classical music, Far Eastern sounds and Nordic moods are all incorporated into an original and engaging idiom of her own.
