IWA (international Women’s Association), Penang is an entirely voluntary, international expat women’s organization with a strong emphasis on community service and the promotion of cultural interchange and understanding.

The organization has approximately 300 members and its objectives include support and assistance for expatriate women and their families in Penang and contributing to our host community by actively supporting local charities.

IWA Penang is very involved in community services projects within Penang, especially those associated with women and children. IWA supports these charities and community projects with its fundraising efforts and a strong volunteer programme.

PENANG ISLAND JAZZ FESTIVAL 2009 “Jazz With A HEART” Charity Dinner

As part of our fundraising efforts for the year, we will be co-hosting with The Capricorn Connection, the Penang Island Jazz Festival 2009 “Jazz With A HEART” Charity Dinner on Friday, 4th December 2009 at the Grand Ballroom of theBayview Beach Resort.

The Charity Dinner is being organized in conjunction with the Penang Island Jazz Festival 2009 which will be held in Penang from the 3rd to 6th December 2009.

Charity being one of the key areas of the Festival, this Charity Dinner will be hosted in aid of providing for the less fortunate & underprivileged women & children.

Entertainment for the night will be provided by:

The Island Palm Beach Boys

They are a group consisting of veterans from the Penang Music scene in the 40s – 60s when Hawaiian Style music was synonymous with clubs and functions held in Penang.

The group will take the listeners down “memory lane” with songs from that era in a Hawaiian jazzy style.

Rhapsody

Initially starting out as a duo with Ywenna on piano and Nicole on vocals in the Singer / Songwriter scene, the group whose music style revolves the pop / jazz genre.

The group has since expanded into a 5 piece group with a rhythm section and carved a sizeable niche in the local music scene with their “saucy jazz licks and catchy hooks”

Band of Brothers (Thailand)

Comprising some of the most talented and in demand musicians in Thailand, The Band of Brothers led by one of Thailand’s charismatic saxophonist “Koh – Mr. Saxman” with soulful vocals by “Hank The Groove” plays a combination of Jazz, Soul, Funk and Rhythm & Blues.

In addition to the entertainment, there!will also be a Raffle Draws of items contributed by generous sponsors to raise funds for our various charities.

Nett proceeds from the sale of Dinner and Raffles Draw tickets will directly benefits various charities and organizations supported by IWA Penang and the Shammah Homes (Butterworth).
